Mary Clyde Huff, technology coordinator for Chilton County Schools, was recognized yesterday for receiving the Sally Moore Award.

The award, named for the late technology coordinator in the Cullman area, is presented each year by the Alabama Educational Technology Association to one who exhibits the dedication of Moore.

“Mary has worked tirelessly to provide Chilton County students and administrators with the kinds of technology available to more advantaged districts,” read the December 2008 issue of Bits & Bytes, a quarterly newsletter published by the association. “She is equally skilled as a network manager and educator, never hesitating to wire schools or provide professional development to further the use of technology in education.”

During her tenure, Huff has worked to bring Internet access to all classrooms and offices, as well as high-speed Internet connectivity, four-digit telephone dialing to all schools within the system, more than 2,500 computers and 50 servers in the system, computerized libraries, student management system, and numerous network software for students.

“My main goal is to put technology in the hands of students,” she said.

Sen. Hank Erwin presented Huff with a resolution yesterday commending her upon receiving the award and recognizing her 40 years of service in the system, 10 years of which she has served as technology coordinator.

The award was presented to her at the ninth annual AETA Fall Symposium.

“I was very honored to receive the award,” Huff said. “It just means a lot to me to be honored by my peers.”
