Economy affects local charities

There are more people to help this year as businesses, families and individuals struggle to tighten up their budgets, but it seems there are less resources to help them with. One area this is evident is local charities like the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center.

Both the center and Maplesville’s Toys for Kids program reported a decrease in donations from last year, yet both are seeing more families and individuals in need than before.

One thing to consider is the fact that there are more charities than before, all of which are great but in a way compete for the public’s generosity.

As we tighten our belts, perhaps we can cut out a few unnecessary items and give a little extra to someone in need.
