DTV switch will occur on Feb. 17

After Feb. 17, all full-power TV stations must switch to broadcasting only in digital. All Alabama residents need to prepare for the digital TV transition, which is why CenturyTel is assisting in providing awareness.

If an individual uses “rabbit ears” or a rooftop antenna with their analog TV, they must take action to be prepared for the digital TV transition. They have options including purchasing a converter box that will plug in to an existing analog TV set; connecting the TV to cable, satellite or other pay service; or buying a TV with a digital tuner.

Residents who purchase a converter box can connect it to their analog TV sets immediately and begin experiencing the benefits of a clearer picture and additional programming today. Residents who choose to buy and use a converter box with their analog TV can get help. The Federal Government is providing coupons towards the purchase of certified TV converter boxes. All U.S. households are able to request up to two $40 coupons, while supplies last, to help pay for the cost of the boxes.

For more information on the digital television transition, including information on a government coupon program for converter boxes, go to www.dtv.gov, or call 1-888-CALL-FCC. If you are an existing CenturyTel customer, call 800-201-4099.
