A Jemison woman has been charged with numerous charges of animal cruelty including killing and disabling livestock.

Jemison Police arrested 28-year-old Kassie Diane Adams of Jemison yesterday for six counts of felony killing and disabling livestock and 75 counts of cruelty to animals. The animals consisted of horses, cows, and pigs.

The arrest stemmed from an extensive investigation that was done by Investigator Jeff Moore and Animal Control Officer Bobby Tucker. The animals were in a pasture at Gene Martin Auto Sales of which they belonged.

Adams was an employee of Gene Martin Auto Sales and has been the sole caretaker and overseer of the business and of these animals for several months.

“During the investigation, officers found that the animals were extremely underfed to the point that several had already died and were lying dead in the pasture,” Interim Police Chief Shane Fulmer said. “Several others were near death.”

In the very beginning, Tucker issued several warnings to Adams about the condition and lack of care for the animals.

The care and condition of the animals never improved, they only got worse, Fulmer said. The remaining animals have been removed from the property and are now being kept in a much better environment and are being cared for.

“Whether it involves a cruelty to animals case or any other crime that’s committed, the Jemison Police Department will do everything we can in solving these cases,” Fulmer said.

Adams is currently being held in the Chilton County Jail under a $135,000 bond.
