Strong thunderstorms could be rumbling through Chilton County early tomorrow morning ahead of a strong cold front that will bring cold weather.

A line of storms is pushing through the state of Mississippi this afternoon and will be arriving here between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Calera. Some of these storms could possibly be severe, but a widespread severe weather outbreak is not expected.

Weather service meteorologist Mark Rose the main threat of severe weather is west of I-65.

“Counties in west Alabama could be placed under a tornado watch during the night, but I’m not sure if it will extend as far east as Chilton County,” Rose said.

Temperatures soared into the 70s over most of central Alabama.

“We always get a little worried when the temperature gets that high this time of year,” Rose added.

Rose said there will be plenty of wind and rain for the whole storm system. A lake wind advisory has been issued for Chilton County until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Chilton County could also see between 1-3 inches of rainfall between now and Thursday night, which could help improve the county’s current drought situation.
