MONTGOMERY — The day after Christmas won’t be an extra holiday for state workers.

Alabama governors have sometimes given state employees an extra day off around Christmas. Riley gave state employees off on Christmas Eve last year so they would have a four-day weekend, but he’s not planning to grant a holiday for Friday, Dec. 26 this year.

Riley’s communications director, Jeff Emerson, said an extra holiday would cost an extra $3 million.
