Turnovers take Lady Tigers out of game early

Chilton County High on Thursday turned the basketball over on their first eight possessions, allowing No. 8 Briarwood to take a 9-0 lead on its way to a 71-25 win.

The Tigers (0-3) didn’t score until there were only 23 seconds remaining in the first quarter, as Tylita Harrell pulled down a defensive rebound and dribbled the length of the floor before finding Vernice Trimble under the basket for the score.

Trimble led CCHS with nine points. She also had three rebounds. Paris Benson contributed four points and eight boards.

Kathryn Byers (12 points) and Lauren Parks (10) both scored in double figures for the Lions (8-1).

Chilton Co. B-team 39, Briarwood 34

Briarwood held a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers (1-2) outscored their guests 22-10 the rest of the way for the win.

Damian Floyd and Quincy Underwood led the way for CCHS with nine points each.

Briarwood’s Kalen Reed bested all scorers with 15 points.
