BILLINGSLEY – Alex Tyus on Tuesday scored 11 of Billingsley’s 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the Bears B-team (1-2) to a 34-31 win over Akron (2-2).

The B-team was the only squad that was able to pull out a victory, as both the boys and girls varsity teams lost.

The only other point in the fourt or OT was a free throw made by Reggie Browder, who was Billingsley’s second-leading scorer with eight points.

Eric Bester led Akron with eight points.

Billingsley led most of the way, but Akron tied it on a 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter and held a 2-point lead late in the fourth.

Tyus hit two free throws to send it into overtime, and gave the Bears a lead during the extra period.

A blocked shot and an altered shot on consecutive possesions by Jim Lanier preserved the win.

Billingsley (2-3) fell behind 17-7 at the end of the first period then tried to make up the distance by playing full-court defense.

But the Rams capitalized on several easy baskets and refused to allow Billingsley to score inside.

Wendy Raines was Billingsley’s leading scorer with 11 points, and Shanitra Kent added 10 points.
