JEMISON — The District 2 seat on Jemison’s City Council was filled Monday night by appointee Donnie Lane.

The council appointed Lane to finish out the term of former council member Danny Robinson, who resigned from his post last month. Lane took the oath of office as given by City Clerk Mary Ellison.

“I know that you can be a great instrument to this council,” Mayor Eddie Reed told Lane after he officially took his seat.

“You really will look at Jemison in a different way,” added Council member Faye King, recounting an instance in which she stopped her car to remove a limb from a public roadway. “We look forward to having you on board.”

The city also made Jeff Moore a full-time investigator with the Police Department. The position had been vacant for several weeks.

Assistant Chief Shane Fulmer said Moore had expressed interest in the position.

“In the situation we’re in today, we’re busy, but we like to work on each and every case we get,” Fulmer said. “I think he will be an asset to the department and the people of Jemison in that he can apply his experience and knowledge in that line of work.”

In other business, Shoal Creek Builders of Montevallo will be replacing the roof on City Hall. The new roof’s design calls for a pitched, metal roof as opposed to the current flat roof, which has leaked.

“They are well-renowned folks in this kind of business,” Reed said of Shoal Creek.

City Building Inspector Shannon Welch said the project would hopefully begin within a couple of weeks.

The council also:

amended a personnel ordinance requiring Jemison city employees to obtain special permission before taking vacation prior to the completion of 12 months of employment. Also, vacation leave cannot be accumulated in excess of 10 days to carry over to the next calendar year.

went into executive session for good name and character

canceled the second council meeting for the month of December.
