The City of Jemison is inviting residents to participate in Friday night’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m.

Individuals or families may help decorate the city’s 30-foot tree with a special ornament in memory of or in tribute to a loved one.

Also, anyone who wishes to sing a Christmas song is welcome to do so.

“Anyone who wants to sing or hang an ornament on the tree may do so,” Council member Faye King said.

The lighting will be held in front of the buildings along Highway 31 just south of Jemison City Hall.

It will include Christmas music, refreshments, and an opportunity to mix and mingle with friends and neighbors.

Santa is also rumored to show up, although the city may need some assistance in this department, King indicated.

Jemison will continue its celebration of the holidays next Saturday, Dec. 13, with the annual Jemison Christmas Parade. The parade will line up at 1 p.m. and begin moving at 2 p.m.

Some adjustments to the parade’s route will likely be made this year. The city plans to announce the route as soon as it is finalized.

To enter a float or vehicle in the parade, or to assist with the tree lighting, or for other information, please contact King at 688-2059 or City Hall at 688-4491 or 688-4492.
