A two-story home on County Road 848 was destroyed by fire this afternoon.

Jemison and Thorsby fire departments were dispatched to the scene around noon. Smoke from the blaze could be seen as far away as downtown Clanton. County Road 848 is located off of County Road 71.

No one appeared to be home at the time of the blaze, but fire officials were still investigating what caused the fire.

Authorities said the home had been burning for a while before it was reported by neighbors.
