Chilton County is still part of the 22 percent of Alabama that is still experiencing moderate drought conditions.

The U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows 79 percent of the state is under some stage of drought — a 6 percent increase from last week.

The area that is covered by the moderate drought area includes Chilton, Bibb and a portion of Dallas counties, and it extends northeastward. A small sliver of this area near the Alabama-Georgia border.
