Rebel defense swarms Oak Grove

In each successive quarter on Tuesday, Oak Grove scored more points than it did in the previous period.

But that didn’t mean much because the Tigers (1-5) only managed three first-quarter points against a stingy Thorsby defense, and the Rebels (2-1) won, 57-41.

Thorsby led 22-8 at halftime and opened the second half on an 11-2 run that put the game away.

Brantley Bice led all scorers with 17 points. Five of those points came midway through the fourth quarter when Bice shot two foul shots and then four more free throws as a result of the ejection of Oak Grove’s coach.

Teammates Eddie Hubbard and Nathan Thornton each chipped in nine points.

Blake Fitzsimmons and Gritt Garner led Oak Grove with seven points each.

Thorsby B-team 52, Oak Grove 42

Andrew Farris scored 29 points and Nathan Olroyd contributed eight points as the Thorsby B-team won its season opener.
