Isabella boys, girls top Verbena

In a game that saw something unusual (Verbena scored exactly two points in three of the four quarters), the Lady Mustangs (1-1) ran away from the Lady Devils (0-5).

Isabella led at the break 13 to 6, but in the final period, the Lady Mustangs ran off behind the defense of Allison Mims and the inside play of Amber Wyatt.

The final score was 25 to 10 Isabella. High scorers were Amber Wyatt and Kimberly Littleton with six points each.

Marquiska Deramus led Verbena with five points.

Isabella boys 44, Verbena 37

Isabella (1-1) made some free throws and played outstanding defense in the final period to get by Verbena (0-5) 44 to 37.

With 1:46 left in the game, the the Mustangs had the lead at 42 to 37. Verbena had wiped out a 10-point deficit to make it interesting to the end.

Verbena fouled, but Isabella made just enough free throws to put it away 44 to 37.

Brian Donovan had a game-high 19 points for Isabella. Teammate Norman Craig had 10 points, and Brandon Veazey was good for eight.

Marshall McGaskin led Verbena with 17 points, and Jason Ray had 11.
