The Town of Maplesville will hold its annual Toys for Kids event again this year. Earlier this month, community members began raising money and taking toy donations to help provide children a better Christmas.

Each year, the Town Hall takes applications for families that need financial help to give their children a proper Christmas. To help these families, the town takes donations of either money or bought toys that they can wrap for the kids.

During the month of November, the town will be taking any donations that people are willing to give.

Maplesville High School SGA members have been working hard to raise money for the families who need help. After a weekend roadblock, the kids were able to raise $1,015 that will all go toward buying Christmas gifts for the Toys for Kids program.

“I am so proud to see these kids out trying to help. It means a lot that they want to give back to their community, and I think they are doing a great job,” said Jimmy Crowe, Maplesville police officer and coordinator of this year’s Toys for Kids project.

Crowe himself has helped by raising almost $400 for the event. Although administration donations will start rolling in to the fund in just a few weeks, the program is still in need of help. The program helped almost 300 families last year, and the hope is to be able to help every family that they can this year.

The deadline for making a donation will be Dec. 5.
