Interest in Thorsby’s one vacant council seat has been high according to town officials.

At least seven residents had submitted a letter stating they were interested in the position as of yesterday morning. The deadline to submit letters was yesterday at 4 p.m.

Mayor Dearl Hilyer said the response on the vacant council seat has been good.

“We have a lot of good quality people. It’s going to be tough for the council to decide,” Hilyer said. “There’s a bunch of good ones to pick from.”

Some letters gave some basic background information while others submitted almost a resumé.

Hilyer said the council’s goal is to select the person at the next council meeting, which is Monday at 6 p.m. One hour before that meeting, the council will hold a work session to discuss the vacant council seat and to discuss business licenses.

“We’re going to take a look at all the letters, discuss it and hopefully make a decision in the regular meeting,” Hilyer said.

Hilyer hoped they can make the decision quickly so they can assign the council members to the various governmental committees in Thorsby.

“Those will depend on who fills the other seat. We want to match up a person’s strengths with the committees they will serve on,” he said.
