A majority of Chilton County’s voters approved a proposal to combine the offices of Tax Collector and Tax Assessor to form one office presided over by a Revenue Commissioner.

This decision was made in a special election in which “Yes” votes topped “No” votes 7,856 to 6,435.

In fact, “No” votes prevailed in just one precinct, which was Mars Hill. Even then, it only carried by 25 votes.

This will take effect at the next election in 2014, unless an official resigns.
