The Chilton County Emergency Management Agency will host a training class for a Community Emergency Response Team beginning Monday night at the Isabella Fire Department.
The class will begin Monday at 5:30 p.m. and continue each Monday and Thursday for the next few weeks.
EMA director Bill Collum said there are five of the 15 slots still available for the class.
The class teaches several emergency response skills including first aid, CPR, using a fire extinguisher and basic search and rescue.
“This class will not certify you to be a firefighter at a local fire department,” he said, “but this will allow you to serve on one of our CERT teams in the county. It is a way for citizens in our county to be able to respond to a major disaster that could happen in the county.”
Collum said there is no cost for the class. Books will be provided. Participants will also receive a bag with free emergency equipment including a flashlight, gloves other necessary items.
Currently there are three CERT squads in the county. For more information about the class or to register, call the EMA at 755-0900.
Collum said anyone interested in taking the class just needs to leave a message, and their call will be returned if there is still room for them in the class.
