The young Marbury football team is not pack of pups anymore. The Bulldogs took down mighty Montgomery Academy 20-17 in game of power football on the muddy Marbury field.

The win keeps Marbury’s playoff hopes alive. Regardless of how the rest of the season goes, coach Kyle Glover is thrilled about his team.

“They came out and proved tonight that we aren’t a young team anymore,” he said. “They’ve grown up, and I’m proud as I’ve ever been about any team.”

One person in particular is Pierre Warren. The junior played the best game of his career posting 300 all-purpose yards, accounted for all three Marbury touchdowns and forced two fumbles on defense.

“Pierre is a special, special kid. He’s going to make a great find for somebody,” Glover said.

Warren’s forced fumbles were recovered by Michael Hand and Tyler Crane in the first quarter to end MA threats, but the quarter ended with no score.

The Eagles pulled ahead on Jarvis Fullenwilder’s 4-yard touchdown run. Matthew Massey added the extra point.

Marbury responded on the next drive. Warren’s 34-yard pass to Ricky Richards set up Warren’s 1-yard touchdown pass to Jylon Tyus. The two-point try failed leaving the Eagles up 7-6 at halftime.

After the break, Warren gave Marbury the lead on a 59-yard scramble. The two-point conversion failed making the score 12-7.

The Eagles drove all the way to the 1-yard line, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty prior to fourth down forced MA to settle for Massey’s 34-yard field goal.

Shortly into the fourth quarter, Warren got free for a 14-yard scoring run. His older brother, Wesley, added the two-point conversion to make the score 20-10.

MA didn’t go away as Fullenwilder scored his second touchdown, this time from 5 yards out. That cut the lead to 20-17 with 8:58 remaining.

Marbury put together a time-consuming drive, but they were held on fourth down with 2:43 left. Crane put the game away by intercepting Douglas Sellers pass with 2:14 on the clock.

The Bulldogs then picked up a first down to run out the clock. Brandon Locker led the defense with 10 solo tackles and 5 assists. Wesley Warren finished the game with 43 yards rushing.
