Jemison, Isabella fall short of state tournament

Jemison lost on Thursday at Class 4A No. 4 St. James in the sub-state round of the state volleyball playoffs 26-24, 25-10, 25-9.

Samantha Glass had three kills and two blocks, Whitney Childress had four digs, Kasi Wells had one dig, 11 assists and two blocks, Tabatha Cork had eight digs four kills, Dallis Vanderslice had eight digs, Christie Hoffmeyer had nine digs and one kill, Emily Smithey had nine digs and four aces, Codi Mims had one dig and three kills with two blocks.

Class 2A No. 8 Isabella was also knocked out of the playoffs one round short of next week’s state tournament, losing at No. 10 Leroy 23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 23-25.

The Mustangs (28-8) got behind in Game 1, and took the lead, 22-17. But Leroy’s serving run got them back in the game.

Isabella also got behind in Game 4 before tying the game at 23 – but could not finish.

Carissa Eiland had a career-high 18 kills in the match along with three blocks.

Amber Wyatt had 13 kills and six blocks, and Krysta Tyler had 26 assists.

Allison Mims led servers with seven aces and also chalked up 10 digs. Ruby Fernandez had 11 digs.
