Bands to take field Monday

We have watched Chilton County’s high school football teams week in and week out for nearly a season, but tomorrow night is the night for our high school bands to shine.

The fifth annual Chilton County Area Night of Bands will take place at Jemison High School’s stadium at 6:30 p.m.

The bands from Chilton County High, Isabella, Jemison High, Maplesville, Marbury, Thorsby and Verbena will perform in the event. This is the first year for an out-of-county band (Marbury) to participate.

“This event only happens one time a year,” coordinator Stephen Pounders said. “It is the only time that all of the bands in the county are together to perform their individual halftime shows.”

Pounders, who also serves as Thorsby’s band director, added that all bands will perform in unison for a grand finale.

“There will be a mass band performance at the conclusion of the shows where all of the bands will play together with more than 250 students on the field at one time,” he said.

That number includes musicians, dancers, majorettes, color guard and any other students who play a role in band performances.

Everyone is invited to attend the Area Night of Bands. Admission is $5 for adults, and parking is $3 per vehicle. Children below the fifth grade will have a reduced admission price.

All proceeds go toward the Chilton County Area Marching All-Star Band. In February, the band will take an overnight trip to Mobile and perform in the Fairhope Mardi Gras Parade.
