Nicholas R. Spearman recently joined the Marine Corps through the Delayed Entry Program. A senior at Thorsby High School, he will attend Marine Corps Recruit Training in May 2009 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

Spearman will undergo 13 weeks of training, to include instruction in first aid, general military subjects, physical fitness, Marine Corps history and weapons familiarization.

Upon successful completion of recruit training, he will return home for 10 days of recruit leave. From there he will attend on of 300 formal military occupational schools that he chose.

Spearman is the son of Kenneth and Freda Spearman of Thorsby.
