Isabella High School was put under a school lockdown yesterday afternoon after a home invasion/burglary call was placed to Chilton County 911, which turned out to be false.

After receiving a 911 call from a 13-year-old girl, the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the scene of an active home invasion/burglary. Sheriff Kevin Davis and deputies along with officers from Clanton, Jemison, Maplesville and Thorsby police departments responded to the area of the home located just off of County Road 29 about one mile from Isabella High School.

Once on the scene officials were informed that the suspect had fled on foot, which in turn caused Isabella High School to be place under a lockdown.

“The school was not in danger throughout the investigation. They were put under a lockdown because the location of the incident was within a one mile range of the school, so all safety precautions were taken to keep the students safe,” Sheriff Kevin Davis said.

For help with the investigation, the Department of Corrections K-9 team was notified and the local officers set up a full perimeter of the area.

After further investigation, it was determined the call was a hoax and the school, deputies and officers on the call were released. At that time, the Chilton County juvenile officers took the girl into custody with charges of giving false information.

“We take every call seriously. If we arrive and find out that a call is a hoax then we will prosecute,” Davis said.
