JEMISON – At least seven vehicles were broken into Friday night at Jemison High School while the school’s football team was away at Greensboro. The vehicles were reportedly parked inside the fence near the football stadium.

The vehicles sustained severe damage, Jemison Police Chief Brian Stilwell indicated. One vehicle in particular, a Ford Mustang, was put up on blocks.

Some of the vehicles are said to belong to Jemison football players.

“We received several leads already today,” Stilwell said Monday. “We hope if anybody has any information that they will call (205) 688-4491, extension 204. They can leave any information there. They can leave their name, or they can leave the information anonymously.”

A patrol car had gone through the area about 30 minutes prior to the incident, Stilwell said. Video cameras in the school’s parking lot captured the offenders and the vehicles they were driving. The department hopes to enhance the video to the point of being able to identify the offenders.

“I think our video is going to be the biggest help,” Stilwell said.

Charges being sought in the case are felony unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, criminal mischief, and theft of property.

In addition, four other vehicles were broken into over the weekend in different parts of the city. It is not known whether these incidents were connected to the one at Jemison High School.
