After two exciting plays to open the game, Friday night’s contest between Isabella and Hale County High returned to the script that had the Mustangs (5-2, 3-2 region) winning easily, 47-18, on homecoming.

The visitors fumbled the opening kickoff, and Isabella’s Austin Haigler ran it in for a score.

Before the home team was done celebrating, though, Hale’s Vincent Kortbawi returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown.

But the Wildcats (1-6, 0-5) could only muster 149 yards of offense in the game.

Isabella led 26-6 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Brian Donovan rushed 13 times for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Donovan added another score on a 70-yard punt return for a TD. The Mustangs’ other scores came on a three-yard keeper by quarterback Brandon Veazey and a one-yard run by Kelsey Gardner.

Matt Snell was good on five point-after attempts.
