SELMA – Chilton County High School returned two interceptions for touchdowns to beat Selma 15-6.

Quentin Underwood intercepted the first pass and returned it about 33 yards to put the Tigers on the board. The extra point was blocked, making the halftime score 6-0.

In the second half, the Saints drove deep into Tiger territory, but Anthony Atcheson picked off a Selma pass and returned it 85 yards for the second touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, but CCHS held a 12-0 lead.

The Tigers later pinned the Saints (4-3, 2-3 in region) on their own 4-yard line after a punt, but Selma running back Eddie Johnson got loose and ran 96 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

Late in the game, CCHS (2-5, 2-2 in region) put together a drive to add insurance. The Tigers appeared to score a rushing touchdown, but an inadvertent whistle negated the play. CCHS still managed to score on a 21-yard field goal by Patrick Norman.

Head coach Brian Carter said the defense played an unbelievable game.

“They stepped up tonight and played a complete game,” he said. “They scored our only two touchdowns. It was an excellent performance.”

The win keeps CCHS’s playoff hopes alive, setting up a must-win game with Wilcox-Central next week.

“We had to have this one tonight if we wanted to make the playoffs,” Carter said.
