Isabella on Thursday capped off a successful season with a title in the first Chilton County junior varsity tournament.

The Mustangs (12-1) defeated Jemison 25-7, 25-14 in the last match of the night to clinch the championship and finish 3-0 in tournament play.

“I’m proud of the way we were able to coach these girls,” coach Lee Windham said while still dripping from the Gatorade shower he received just outside of Alton Cobb Gymnasium. “We played the same system as the varsity. A lot of the time, you’re not able to do that and still win. We’ve been able to put it all together this year.”

Chilton County High took second place.

The all-tournament team was Isabella’s Jessica Maciel (who was also named Most Valuable Player) and Devan Gallet, CCHS’s Rachel Johnston and Kaylen Bradberry, Jemison’s Kortney Robinson and Thorsby’s Sade’ Archie.

Isabella also defeated CCHS (25-11, 25-17) and Thorsby (28-26, 25-7). Jemison topped Thorsby in the first match of the day 25-20, 25-23, then the Rebels fell to the Panthers 20-25, 19-25. The Tigers took a 19-25, 32-30, 15-5 decision over Thorsby.
