LeCroy invites all to open house

Tuesday will be LeCroy Career/Technical Center’s day to shine.

From 3-7 p.m., the center will open its doors to the community for parents and other interested persons to learn the benefits of career/technical education. And why not have a free hotdog while you’re there?

“Our goal is to get as many people in Chilton County as we can on our campus to expose what’s going on in career/technical education,” Director Tommy Glasscock said. “A large percentage of what we do is hands-on. We want to give our students a chance to show off their projects.”

Even though students attend LeCroy from all over the county, Glasscock said people who visit the center usually leave amazed at everything that is accomplished within its walls – and without, for that matter.

One example is a landscaping project made possible through a $5,000 grant from CAWACO. With this funding, the Horticulture Department is landscaping the LeCroy campus.

“It’s already taking hold,” Glasscock said. “It’s unbelievable how different it looks.”

In an effort to promote its goal as a business/industry-driven entity, the school will have business people and instructors available to talk to parents. Many of them will be from companies that hire students from LeCroy who are trained on equipment similar to that used in the workforce.

Glasscock said the school has received a huge response from cards sent out to parents via students.

“We want more parent participation,” he said.
