Fights for playoff spots become desperate

Everyone has begun to shift their focus to the postseason, and seven of our teams still have a shot. All of them still have work to do if they want to make it, but here are the tasks in front of our teams tonight.

CCHS at Selma

Although Chilton County High School has only one win, they still have a chance to make the playoffs, but it must start with a win tonight. The Saints were blown out by Demopolis and Greenville in their only losses. I expect both CCHS and Selma to come out and play their best game of the year because the postseason rides on the game.

Jemison at Greensboro Public

Greensboro has a good record, but they are just now getting into the meat of their schedule. They fell to a surging Calera team last week, and they still have to play Bibb County.

The Panthers need to avoid looking past the Raiders to a showdown with Bibb County next week. Tonight and next week will determine just where Jemison will finish in the region.

Billingsley at A.L. Johnson

The Bears have been playing good football the last few weeks, and they will need to keep it up tonight. The Eagles are the only team standing between Billingsley and the playoffs.

Hale County at Isabella

There’s no better way for Isabella to celebrate homecoming than with Hale County. The Wildcats are winless in region play so far, and it won’t change tonight.

No. 9 Maplesville at Akron

The Red Devils are not as bad as last week’s final score indicated. They will prove that tonight by rebounding with a big win over the Rams. Expect Matt Hamner, Hunter McCay, Chris Bailey and company to put up some big numbers while the defense won’t let Akron post many points. This win should guarantee Maplesville a playoff berth.

Thorsby at Shades Mtn. Christian

The Rebels have had a disappointing season, but they have a chance to change their luck tonight. They face an Eagle team that is winless in region play. The Rebels should be able to put together one of their best performances of the year.

Verbena at Talladega County-Central

The Fighting Tigers are a very big challenge for Verbena tonight. You might ask just how good is TCC. Well, they defeated Wadley by 10 points, and Verbena knows just how good Wadley is. A loss tonight won’t hurt Verbena’s chances of making the playoffs, but they must keep their heads up because two very important games remain.

Montevallo at Marbury

This Bulldog battle should be fun, and this is the next to last home game at Marbury’s founding site. Montevallo lost two key players last week in a loss to LaFayette. Marbury hopes to pull off a mild upset tonight.
