Troy upends Florida Atlantic

FORT LAUDERDALE – Quarterback Jamie Hampton ran for two touchdowns to lead Troy to a 30-17 victory over Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night.

DuJuan Harris also ran for a touchdown for Troy and Sam Glusman kicked three field goals as the Trojans (3-2, 2-0 Sun Belt) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Florida Atlantic (1-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) lost its fourth straight game.

Hampton left the game near the end of the third quarter due to a left leg injury and did not return. He finished 10-for-20 for 116 yards and one interception. He rushed for 61 yards.

Florida Atlantic’s Rusty Smith ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Jamari Grant. He was 21-for-41 for 283 yards and two interceptions.

With Troy leading 20-10 in the third quarter, Florida Atlantic snapped the ball over the punter’s head and the ball was kicked out of bounds. Troy took possession at Florida Atlantic’s 4-yard line and Hampton’s 1-yard touchdown run put Troy ahead 27-10.

Smith’s 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth made it 30-17.

Florida Atlantic temporarily got back in the game after an interception of a Hampton pass by Ed Alexander gave the Owls the ball at the Trojans 45-yard line. Smith tossed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Grant to close the gap to 17-10.
