A fourth-and-goal pass from the 7-yard line breathed life into the Thorsby Rebels midway through the second quarter. But with the exception of a late fourth quarter drive, that was all Thorsby (0-6) would muster in a 34-6 loss at Vincent (5-1).

“I’m proud of our guys. I thought we played a good first half. We had a letdown in the third quarter, but came back and fought hard in the fourth quarter,” Thorsby head coach Daryl Davis said.

After falling behind 6-0, Andrew Farris found Marcus Bray in the right corner of the end zone for the Rebels’ touchdown with 7:10 left in the first half. Vincent answered with a 26-yard touchdown run from Michael Kelley to go up 13-6 at the half. The Yellow Jackets set the tone in the third quarter, scoring twice more to lead 27-6.

However, the Rebels responded in the fourth quarter, marching the ball down the field in the final minutes with the help of Farris’ arm and more than 25 yards of penalties from Vincent. The drive stalled on fourth down at the Vincent 3. While the end result was not points, that drive is part of what Davis saw as an improvement in his team.

“I thought we played a lot harder tonight against a good Vincent team,” he said.
