Commenting is becoming chatting

Dear Editor,

The new Clanton Advertiser Web site just keeps getting better with breaking news and other features. There is one feature – in my opinion – that is being abused. This is the new ability to comment on the articles published online.

I feel that some are using this as a “Chatline” and not a comment section as it was originally intended to be. There are a few just using the comments feature to go back and forth with some other readers swapping absurd remarks that accomplish nothing.

Sometimes these comments are way out of left field and completely off the subject line of the story. Others are also very offensive with their comments.

My suggestion is that readers make a comment after careful consideration and move on. This will, I believe, improve the quality of the subject matter and reduce the number of comments that have to be removed by the Advertiser staff.
