“The preparation of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established, The Lord hath made all things for himself; yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Thought for the week: “The Grace of God”

“He gives me hope and courage to face each newborn day, he guides me through the shadows to light and show the way. He comforts and sustains me in times of my distress, he gives me inspiration to find true happiness. He grants to me forgiveness when I may go astray. He helps me in my trials and does my fears allay. He never does forsake me in moments of despair, and when I need a helping hand, I always find Him there.”

Beulah Baptist Church in Thorsby will celebrate its annual Mission Day on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Davis is pastor. All mission ladies and pastors are invited.

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with praise service by choirs 1 and 2 with Jennifer Peoples and Julian Lucas as musicians. Songs sung: “Glad To Be In This Service,” “I’ll Take Jesus For Mine,” “Praise The Lord Everybody” and “Hello Sunshine.” The scripture was read by Willie Nunn with prayer by Pastor Dukes and Steven Nunn.

The morning message was given by Pastor Dukes. His theme: “There is a Word From the Lord.” What does it mean to live a Christian life? We all struggle but we need to know what it takes. God has specific directions to guide you. We have to stand for ourselves.

God has a will for our lives that involve sacrifice. Must your life be a crucified life? Take up your cross and follow him; deny yourself.

The first thing you must do is deny your possessions. Don’t let stuff be your God.

Secondly, deny people (Luke 14-26). Love Christ supremely; don’t let any one hinder you from following God and don’t let others make you sit down on God.

Third, deny pride. Serving God is not always popular. Sometime it’s hard. Swallow your pride; not everyone will receive you. Handle obstacles the way that brings glory to God. Live a Christian and concentrated life. Take up your cross and bear it alone. The cross represents a sacrifice. Are you willing to pay the price? A ministry that costs nothing is not worthy. Show that Christ lives in you. Eternity is your reward.
