MONTGOMERY – Quarterback Reid Herchenbach threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as Alabama State dominated Mississippi Valley State with a 47-7 victory.

Alabama State (1-3, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) was first on the scoreboard in the first quarter of Thursday night’s game when Cedric Harris caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Herchenbach.

And the Hornets never looked back there, scoring 33 straight points in the second quarter. Also catching passes from Herchenbach were Maplesville’s Nicholas Andrews and Darius Mathis, both in the second quarter. The second quarter also saw Herchenbach and Rahmod Traylor each rush for a touchdown and Jake King kick a 25-yard field goal.

After a scoreless third quarter, Fred Ragsdale caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Speight in the fourth to give Alabama State a 47-0 lead.

Mississippi Valley (1-3, 0-1) avoided a shutout when Cameron Russ caught an 18-yard pass from Eddie Ivory Jr. with less than a minute left in the game.
