Any resident in Thorsby and Clanton Wards 1 and 4 that wishes to participate in the municipal runoff election on Oct. 7 must be registered to vote in his or her town by Friday.

The registration deadline also includes any voters that must update their information, including addresses.

In Thorsby, incumbent Tom Bentley faces Dearl Hilyer in the runoff for mayor. In Clanton Ward 1, incumbent Ronnie Porter is facing Jeffrey Price.

Greg DeJarnett and William Trimble are vying for the open seat in Ward 4 left by Councilmember Elizabeth Hill, who is choosing not to run. Hill is finishing out the term of her husband, Elem, who died earlier this year.

Hilyer, Price and DeJarnett received the most votes in their respective races.

Anyone who wants to register may go to the Board of Registrars located on the first floor of the Chilton County Courthouse. No identification is required to fill out an application.

All a resident must do is fill out the registration form, including the person’s address and his or her driver’s license number or the last four digits of the social security number.

The person’s registration card will not be issued when they sign up for registration, but it will instead be mailed out to the voter.

Clanton City Clerk Debbie Orange said she would accept new voter registrations and voter changes in her office, and they will take them to the Board of Registrars Office.

The application deadline for absentee ballots will be Oct. 2. Orange said her office has already sent out 142 ballots, mostly from Ward 1.

“We’ve had to order more absentee ballots,” Orange said.

Absentee voters can go ahead and vote when they turn in their applications or they can wait until they receive their ballots in the mail. All ballots must be received through the mail by election day.
