See You at the Pole returns Wednesday

Many students will get up early Wednesday morning to participate in the annual prayer event See You at the Pole.

Traditionally, students gather around flagpoles on their respective school campuses to address international, national, local and individual concerns through prayer.

This year’s theme is “Connect,” and Clanton Middle School is one school that is participating. Students there will gather at 7:15 on the right-hand side of the school building. A special flag will be brought out due to traffic flow around the school’s permanent flagpole.

“We’re going to get in small groups and pray for our school, students, teachers and parents,” teacher Vicki Grooms said.

“We probably need to add the economy to that,” she added.

Cleve Mallory from Bethsalem Baptist Church will speak at the event.

A “P3 Party” or Post-Pole Party with Christian rapper Yungtown will take place at Clanton’s Corner Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

The event is sponsored by Lomax Assembly of God but is open to everyone in the community free of charge.

Yungtown will kick things off, followed by a time of praise and worship with Lomax’s Matt Littlejohn and a devotion from West End Student Minister Kenny Martin.

Also, the Clanton First Baptist youth group will present a drama followed by student-led prayers in several categories.

Attendees should probably bring lawn chairs, said Lomax Assembly of God Youth Pastor Erron Price.

“We just want to put together a night of prayer,” Price said.

“See You at the Pole is something we do once a year, but we really want to encourage the students to make it an everyday thing.”
