Everybody likes to be entertained. We all need something to help us forget about our everyday problems, if only temporarily. Unfortunately, for most people in Chilton County, this means going out of town.

As gas prices continue to hover well beyond what we deem affordable, however, our entertainment options are limited. That’s when we have to start looking for some alternatives.

This week the Chilton County Fair is coming back to town. Going to the fair is a good entertainment investment for you and your family for several reasons.

While it does cost money to attend the fair, it cuts out the necessity of having to drive outside the county. This saves gas and creates more free time for you and your family.

Did you know a portion of the proceeds goes to local charities that help children with financial needs? You can’t say that for money spent at a movie theater, restaurant or other venue.

All of the proceeds from admission go toward these type charities through the Clanton Kiwanis Club, and a portion of money from armbands goes to this cause as well.

If you have not been to the fair in several years, you will see more options this year. Last year’s fair was very well attended all week long with more rides, games, exhibits and concessions.

Kissel Entertainment, now based in Clanton, is providing more of these options as the popularity of the fair increases. They are a unique, family-owned company that demands a lot from their employees, and they are spoken highly of by local people who have worked with them.

The demolition derby, which was new for last year, makes a return Tuesday night. A new event for 2008 is Gospel Night, which takes place Thursday night. Also, Chilton County High School’s “Blast from the Past” performs Monday night and Southern Pride takes the stage Wednesday night.

No matter your age or interest, we are sure you will find something to do at the Chilton County Fair.
