A new event will bring Southern gospel and contemporary sounds to the Chilton County Fair this year.

Thursday, Sept. 25, will be Gospel Night from 7-9 p.m. featuring Gene Lowery and The Samaritans, Adreane Barrington, Madalyn Barrington, Alex Headley, Cool Reign and Steve Roberson.

“I have singers everywhere who can volunteer their time,” said Lloyd Nutter, a coordinator of local gospel singings who will serve as emcee of Gospel Night. “We are really blessed with the talent we have here.”

Lowery and The Samaritans are a well-known local gospel group, and the Barringtons and Headley comprise a mother-daughter-niece trio that is sure to please the ears of all who attend.

Cool Reign will likely attract some younger listeners, Nutter said.

“They’re kind of a rock gospel,” he explained. “They are new for the area even though the drummer (Michael Nelson) is from Clanton.”

Roberson is an up-and-coming gospel artist from Clanton who just recorded a full-length album entitled “Walk by Faith.” He has received airplay on local radio and is getting ready to release his first single on a national level.

Nutter advises people to bring lawn chairs, as seating is limited at the fairgrounds. There is no admission for the event other than general fair admission, he said.
