LOXLEY – Authorities say Loxley police officers shot and killed a 48-year-old man accused of using a handgun to rob the Regions Bank in Spanish Fort.

Maj. Anthony Lowery of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department said, “The officers were forced to shoot him.”

The shooting took place on a grassy shoulder of eastbound Interstate 10.

Four Loxley patrol cars stopped the suspect, who bolted from his truck and ran. Police said he refused to stop and pulled a gun and officers then fired. Lowery said the man was hit by more than one shot.
