Jackson Chapel

Bro Dennis’ text was taken from 2 Chronicles 7:12-15. We need to remember what all God has done for us so in return we need to give back to God and trust him that he will meet all of our needs.

Bro Dennis’ text for Sunday evening came from Matthew 6:1-8; 16-21 with a message entitled “The Measure of Success.” We need to be worried about what God thinks about us instead of what everybody else thinks about us.

Bethsalem Baptist Church

We started our day by kicking off our “One Month to Live” campaign at 9 a.m. with breakfast.

Bro. Brad Eubank preached his message from John 10:10. The message posed the question, “What if you had one life to live?”

Wednesday night is family supper at 5:45, followed by prayer meeting and choir practice for all choirs.

Bethany Baptist Church

We enjoyed Bro. Aubry’s sermon Sunday morning, “An Hour of Decision,” taken from Ruth 1:1-22. Every day we make decisions, some small and some major. The most important, life-changing decisions concern what we do about God and our Christian walk.

Sunday night Bro. Aubry preached a sermon on the ninth Commandment, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” (Exodus 20:16). This acrostic gives us something to think about before we speak: T – Think before you speak; H – Will it help?; I – Is it inspiring?; N – Is it necessary?; K – Is it kind? Think about it.

Upcoming Events: (1) State mission meeting at Hamilton Sept. 13. (2) Annual homecoming Sunday, Sept. 28. Our service will begin at 10 a.m. with an hour or so of singing, then the morning message will be delivered by Bro. Paul Gray, one of our former pastors. A meal in the fellowship hall will follow the morning message. Everyone is invited to attend. (3) Yellowcreek Association at Winfield Oct. 3; (4) State meeting at Dothan Oct. 10-11.

Center Hill Baptist Church

Pastor, Bro. David Warren, gave a short children’s sermon reflecting on children’s respect for adults. The children were then led in their children’s church time by Jo Layne Chapman. The pastor delivered a sermon on Revelation 3:1-6, charging the church with the message given to the church of Sardis.

Because of the beginning of the new church year, two new Discipleship Training classes were offered on Sunday night in addition to the class that was already in progress, which is the study of “The Prayer of Jabez.” The new classes are the following: 1) a Beth Moore Bible study entitled “When Godly People Do Ungodly Things” and 2) a study guide for witnessing entitled “Share Jesus Without Fear” by William Fay, instructing us on how to better witness in an ever-increasing hostile world. Also during the Sunday night service, the pastor finished his teaching series on rewards and judgment.

Cedar Grove Methodist-Protestant Church

We had a very exciting day at Cedar Grove; it being Grandparents Day, we were the subject of the morning.

Please remember Sis. Dolly Price and Sis. Ellen Ruth Scott when you pray. Both are sick at this time. Kenneth and Betty Robinson need our prayers, as they are having serious problems with diabetes.

We had two anointings, one at each service. Please pray for the sick, both for the ones that were not able to be there and for those who were.

Happy birthday to Pam Jones and Missy Knight, and happy anniversary to Gary and Amelia Hubbard.

Instead of preaching a sermon, Bro. Jeff read 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, 5:1-2 and talked about things we wouldn’t have in heaven. There will be no pain or medications, to name just a few. You should have been there; it was really interesting. We all got a good laugh about some of the things we go through on this earth.

We welcome all our visitors at both services. We loved having you and hope you will come again.

Bro. Heath Vines brought a good message Sunday night entitled “Life’s Uncertainties.” His text came from James 4:13-17.

It was good to hear Bro. Heath. We have had several Sunday nights that we didn’t have service and we missed his sermons.

If you are looking for a home church, come to Cedar Grove. We have excellent preaching and singing; some of the best singers and musicians in the county. Our choir keeps growing but we still need more; we want 100, especially when we get back in the sanctuary.

Oak Grove Church of God

Oak Grove celebrated our annual homecoming Sunday. Many homecomings have been celebrated at Oak Grove since the church here was established in April of 1925, but we are all anticipating the “Great Homecoming” when Christ returns for His church.

Our guest speaker Bro. Ronnie Blankenship was set forth in the ministry from Oak Grove Church of God and is now the pastor of Pine Grove Church of God in Winston County near Cullman. Bro. Blankenship took his text from Revelations 20:11-15 and his message was “The Trial of the Centuries.”

We enjoyed a great homecoming at Oak Grove. We heard a great sermon from Bro. Blankenship, enjoyed a great meal so wonderfully prepared by our ladies, and anointed singing by the Freemans in the afternoon.

We would like to wish happy birthday to Patrick Doss and Jeannine Milford (Sept. 9), J.J. Hayes (Sept. 10) and Betty Davis (Sept. 13). We pray that they will enjoy these birthdays and will celebrate many more in the future.

We are so blessed of God at Oak Grove and we are continuing to see new people come into our services. We thank God for them and want them to know that we love them and they are always welcome.

Walnut Creek United Methodist Church

Sunday, Bro. Tony introduced us to Mildred Scott, a member of our church from long ago who desires again to become a member of Walnut Creek. What a delightful lady. Mildred, or “Mitt,” lost her sister, Louise Patterson, who was a beloved part of our church family, last week. She said this was like homecoming to her and that she could remember “pallets” in the aisles during revivals.

We also enjoyed Britney Ray as a new addition to our choir, Mrs. Agnes Headley and Charlie and Misty King.

Bro Tony said God had put it on his heart to call for an altar prayer for all those sick today. His message was from Romans 13: 8-14.

Bro Tony said, “Discounting little children, there is a natural tension within us that will lead us down the road to destruction if we allow it. But we do not have to be victims. We have a choice.”

What will lead us? Choose this day, will it be life or death? When this body dies, the life that God breathed into us, our soul, lives on. Choices.

The church received a great blessing from Moore’s Glass Co., These are great young men always helping folks.

Old Macedonia Baptist Church

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good…” Genesis 1: 31

Our morning message included the above scripture and was brought to us by special speaker, Bro. Gerald Stamps. He asked everyone to always give God what is his, all the praise, honor and glory; for without him we have nothing. We sometimes think we can do all things; indeed, we can do all things, but only through Jesus Chris. The message was preceded by an inspiring Sunday school lesson brought to us by Bro. Robert Martin who asked everyone to always forgive, early and often, and to rely on the Lord for the grace to forgive others as he has forgiven you. Some beautiful singing followed with Bro. David Jones leading the congregation with a toe tapping “In the Sweet By and By,” and a stirring rendition of “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.” Sister Faye Cagle, with daughters Tammie and Reba followed with a wonderful singing of “The Old Country Church.” Sister Elaine Smitherman sang my all time favorite, “He may be on the Next Cloud Passing By” and concluded with a touching “So close To Home.” Our little ones blessed all our hearts by ending the singing with “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” A happy birthday goes out to Sister Elaine and our heartfelt prayers go out to all of our sick and shut-ins. Folks, don’t forget that starting Sept. 21 our annual pumpkin patch revival with several churches participating will begin the weeklong praising of our Lord, Jesus Christ thru song, teaching and preaching. Folks, remember that denominations won’t matter in the sweet by and by for there will be no nametags in Heaven! Make plans to attend as many nights as possible for the blessings will come to all those expecting them. As always, Old Macedonia invites anyone who is looking for a home church to come visit with us “down on the river.” As Pastor Derrell says, “Let the spirit get hold of ya, it’s better than banana pudding! Lime Springs United Methodist Church

We continued our study on Revelation this Sunday, as we looked at Chapter 15. Bro. Shannon brought the morning message from Isaiah 52:11 on the importance of staying away from the things of the world that would diminish our abilities to be holy priests for God. We must always remember the words of I Corinthians 6:17 to be separate from the world.

Our evening Bible study focused on II Corinthians 4-7.

Mt. Carmel No. 1

Our congregation was blessed Sunday morning with something very special, the children’s choir. They began their practice on Wednesday, September 3 and sang a very pretty song for us, “The B.I.B.L.E.”

In the absence of our vacationing pastor, Bro. Ricky and Mrs. Belda, our message was brought by our music director, Bro. John Dennis. His sermon was taken from Genesis 3: 1-13 titled “Individual Responsibility.” Adam was responsible for three things; ye shall not eat of the tree in the midst of the garden, forgiveness, and to keep the commandments.

Happy birthday wishes this week go out to Erica Lowery, Hanna Lockhart, Rena Lawrence, Jimmy Foshee and Jeff Lockhart.

Our Sunday night service we watched a film on the tragedy of September 11. The film was in remembrance of all the firefighters and workers and the lives lost.

Christ Independent Methodist Church

On our way to church this beautiful Lord’s Day, there were so many signs that time is moving on and the evidence is clear. One person mentioned the slant of the suns rays another nip in the air, and unanimous agreement that falling leaves tell us that summer is past. But God is in his Heaven and He is in control.

Dr. Mac Stinson took his scripture reading from Matthew 18:15-20. The scripture deals with how we should deal with a brother. In Matthew 18:15 Jesus is speaking and He says “If brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” Two words that have undisputed healing power are “I’m sorry.” These two words are so easy to pronounce, but appear to be so hard to say. Have you used those words lately? Relationships matter. The words “I’m sorry” are a tested antibiotic for hurtful words and wounded spirits.

Join us in praying for the family of Iola Shelton who passed away September 5, for Gloria Bradberry and family in the passing of brother, Kenneth Wilson, Randall Miller, Ken Osborne, Mary Ann Carden’s brother and grandson, Penny Davis, Judy Williams, Mae Hunnicutt, Carol Lowery, our military and their families, our church, community and ourselves. Help us to pray as never before for the man who will lead our nation for the next four years. We need a Christian President to help this nation maintain the principles which it was founded upon.

Celebration Sunday (Homecoming) is coming up Sept. 21. We are planning for this to be a great day in the life of our church and we invite you to come celebrate with us. We have singers returning from Tennessee and the Rev. Jim Webster will be our guest speaker. Be in prayer for each of these who come to serve and glorify God. Calvary’s Hill Church of God

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Proverbs 18:10

Praise the Lord for a beautiful day. Bro. Willard brought his message from Matthew 25:1-13 about the parable of the ten virgins. This is a one on one relationship and we need to have an encounter with Jesus everyday through prayer, reading the word, and kindness and love to others.

Sunday evening Bro. Willard spoke from James 5: 13-15 titled, “Can we pray?” We expect God to answer our prayers without getting earnest and sincere with him. The power we have with God depends on the power we have in our prayer life. “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16 A loving and praying church can help a person be saved, delivered, healed and uplifted. Pray and, with faith, believe! Before church ended, there was a special prayer for those needing a touch from God.

Sunday, Sept. 21 will be Homecoming with special singers, Southern Joy, preaching and lunch. Also, we will be having revival Oct. 5-8 with Bro. Wayne Rouse. Heritage Church of the Nazarene

Tommy Tucker, Sunday school director, began the service by extending a wish for a Happy Grandparents Day to all grandparents. The Sunday school lesson, taught by Joe Collins, was very informative regarding how important music, both instrumental and voice, is to the Christian. Music is soothing to the soul. In Bible times, Kings requested music.

The Worship service was directed by our youth in every aspect as today was Youth Sunday. B.J. Medley was in charge of the congregational singing. Bobby Tinney sang “Could You Give Your Only Son?” and Bridget Wallis sang “Say the Word.” JD Thigpen gave the message from Matthew 6:33. JD shared the story of his life. He accepted God years ago then wandered away from God believing he could handle life without Him. When the diagnosis of cancer came, he cried out to God for His help and forgiveness. JD has completed his cancer therapy and physicians report the cancer cells are gone! JD re-emphasized to the audience the importance of seeking God first and keeping Him first in your life.

The Community Prayer Boxes are receiving requests each week. There is a box at 610 Dennis St. (Heritage Church) and the Love’s Truck Stop. There are future plans for placement of Prayer Boxes at other locations. Each Sunday these requests are placed on the altar and prayer is offered to God on behalf of each need. It’s exciting to know God answers prayer in the community regardless of your church affiliation.

In the evening service Rev. Aldridge spoke from Corinthians 8:1-6. “Excel in Giving” was the title. Bro. Aldridge asked, “Do you believe in God?” If we believe in God our life will show it.
