Chilton County gas prices are fluctuating this morning in the wake of possible problems caused by Hurricane Ike.

As of 10;30 a.m., some gasoline is selling for as much as $3.99 per gallon while some stations were still selling gasoline as cheap as $3.59. Other areas across the state are seeing spikes in the gas prices and even some stations running out of gasoline.

Reports from Alexander City have gas prices at $3.99 with some stations only selling diesel fuel because they have run out of gasoline. Others only have premium gasoline.

According to national reports, wholesale gasoline is being sold at over $5 a gallon, which is trading almost $2.50 over its futures benchmark.

About 16 refineries were forced to shut down production in Texas due to Hurricane Ike including the nation’s largest refinery.
