Bears fight off feisty Thorsby team, win in 3

Billingsley cruised in taking the opening game against Thorsby last night and squeaked by in the next two games for the sweep.

The Bears (4-2) won, 25-16, 25-22, 25-23.

Billingsley had to fight back from a 15-13 deficit in the second game for the win. The hosts took a 6-1 lead to open the third game, but the outcome was in doubt until Wendy Raines’ match point serve fell untouched in the back right corner of the Thorsby court.

Michelle Hendrix posted nine assists, three aces and two digs in a losing effort. Stephanie Moore had five kills and two aces.

Holly Smith recorded four assists for the Rebels (4-13), and Kendra Dawson had two kills, two aces and two digs.

The Billingsley junior varsity team was also victorious, winning 25-19, 25-13.
