The Maplesville Town Council has approved up to $10,500 to purchase a four-wheel drive utility vehicle for the fire department.

The vehicle that the fire department is eyeing is a 2008 model and has only been driven about 12 to 14 hours. The town would not have to bid out the item because it is now under the current bid law of $15,000, which became effective on Aug. 1.

Residents, including Shelia Hall, came back to the council to ask what action had been taken about complaints that were voiced at last month’s meeting. The council said they have reviewed videotape evidence and have taken proper action.

Police Chief Todd Ingram has also implemented a new complaint form that will allow residents to make formal complaints against officers in writing. Then, the police chief will investigate the matter.

In other business, the council:

donated $200 each to the CITY program and the Chilton Education Foundation.

approved a resolution allowing town attorney Hollis Jackson to have the parking lot on Main Street surveyed and put into one deed for the whole property. This will allow the town to repave the parking lot.

gave the fire department $600 for fire prevention week.

declared Sept. 17-23 Constitution Week 2008.

declared a 1984 Chevrolet truck and a 1980 Chevrolet Derrick truck (bucket truck) surplus and will ask for people to submit sealed bids to buy the truck. The bids will be opened at the next meeting.

took no action on a request for a bookkeeping internship or giving any money to the Chilton County Humane Society.
