Eight compete for title of 2008 Chilton County Junior Miss

Eight local young women are getting ready to compete for the title of Chilton County Junior Miss. The competition will be held Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Chilton County High School Auditorium. Admission will be $5.

The winner of the competition will receive scholarships to the college of her choice as well as the opportunity to advance to the state finals in Montgomery.

The theme of this year’s program in “The Wild West Show.” The competition is held only for senior girls. The girls must perform physical fitness and poise routines, as well as their own talent presentation. The girls are also judged on academics and personal interviews.

Special entertainment will be a variety of former Junior Miss winners, known as “has beens.” Julie Davis’ dance classes will also perform.

Kayla Nicole Boddie

Kayla Nicole Boddie is a student at Chilton County High School.

She plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and hopes to become an anesthesiologist.

Boddie is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Science Club, Spanish Club and FCCLA.

She is the yearbook editor, a varsity cheerleader, a Blast from the Past performer, and enjoys tumbling and reading. She will perform a dance/ tumbling routine to a High School Musical mix.

She is the daughter of Steve and Leigh Ann Boddie.

Kristin Marie Nelson

Kristin Marie Nelson attends Chilton County High School. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and obtain a degree in public relations.

Nelson is a CCHS majorette, is a leader on the youth drama team, lead singer in the Blast from the Past production, plays Lady Tigers softball, a member of the Student Leadership Team, sings in the youth choir and praise band, DECA treasurer, a three year member of the Juniorettes club, plays on the Liberty Hill Baptist Church softball team and is a member of the Computer Club and the Science Club.

She will dance and sing “I Can’t Do It Alone” from Broadway’s Chicago by John Kander and Fred Ebb.

She is the daughter of Kevin and Amy Nelson.

Natalie Jayne Littleton

Natalie Jayne Littleton is a student at Chilton County High School.

She plans on attending The University of Alabama and someday working with underprivileged children.

Littleton is a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church youth choir and drama team, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Club, FCCLA and the Historical Society. She plays the piano, performed in Blast from the Past and plays softball.

Littleton will play Ballade in C minor by Johann Burgmuller on the piano. She is the daughter of Rex and Jayne Littleton.

Destiny Kate Hill

Destiny Kate Hill is a student at Chilton County High School.

She plans to attend Samford University and would like to become a pharmacist with a minor in Spanish.

Hill is a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, SGA, DECA, Computer Club, FCCLA and SADD. She is the varsity cheerleader co-captain, performed in Blast from the Past and is on the Tiger Mart staff.

Hill has chosen contemporary dance as her talent and will perform to the song “Taking Chances” by Celine Dion. She is the daughter of Daren and Debbie Hill.

Brett Ashley Sullivan

Brett Ashley Sullivan attends Chilton County High School. She hopes to attend Auburn University and become a surgical assistant.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, First Baptist Church youth group, National Beta Club, SGA, Spanish Club, Science Club, FCCLA, DECA, a varsity cheerleader and plays on the varsity softball team.

She is the daughter of Mark and Brenda Sullivan.

Abigail Escalante Dy

Abigail Escalante Dy is a student at Chilton County High School.

She would like to attend either Birmingham Southern or Vanderbilt and become a family physician.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, FCCLA, Youth Alive, and the yearbook staff. She is a varsity cheerleader, the dance team captain, Science Club treasurer and the Focus program president.

Dy will perform Prelude in C# Minor by Serge Rachmaninoff on the piano. She is the daughter of Ritky and Teresita Dy.

Carly Rebecca Springer

Carly Rebecca Springer is a student at Chilton County High School. She plans to attend Auburn University and hopes to become a broadcast journalist. Carly is a varsity cheerleader, performs in Blast from the Past, a member of New Life Community Church youth group, Computer Club, Spanish Club, DECA and “Three Strands” drama team.

She will sing and dance in the competition.

She is the daughter of Scott and Cam Springer.

Mary Elizabeth Gasson

Mary Elizabeth Gasson is a student at Thorsby High School.

She plans to attend Samford University and obtain a degree in music education or history.

She is the drum major of the Thorsby High School Marching Band, Youth Alive President, National Honor Society Vice President and National Beta Club Treasurer. She is a member of Thorsby First Baptist Youth Group leadership team, Senior High Scholars Bowl team, and plays varsity softball and varsity basketball.

Her talent will be an instrumental/vocal performance with piano accompaniment to “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban.

She is the daughter of Gary and Sandra Gasson.
