THORSBY – An efficient offense and a smothering defense gave American Christian Academy a 53-7 win over Thorsby on Friday night.

The Patriots (2-0) built a 21-point lead in the first quarter before the Rebels (0-2) could manage a first down. That came when quarterback Andrew Farris ran behind center on a 4th-and-1 play.

Farris, who completed nine of 21 passes for 127 yards, hooked up with Marcus Bray for a 26-yard gain later in the drive, but Thorsby couldn’t score until the game was well in hand.

Farris found Shane Carr from 29 yards out with 1:14 left in the game for the only touchdown.

ACA scored in the first half on a 6-yard pass from Matt Sandlin to Mason Hallman, on an 8-yard run by Sandlin, on a 15-yard run by Josh Lee, and on a 20-yard pass from Sandlin to Brandon Gottfried with six seconds left.

Blake Brenton was good on all the point after tries, and the Patriots led 28-0.

In the second half, ACA scored on a 21-yard run by Harrison Pollard, on a 7-yard pass from Pollard to Gottfried, and on two different passes from Austin Grammer to Kyle Smelley.
