Minooka Park inaugural poker run set for next Saturday

Minooka Park will host its first ever poker run Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. with gates scheduled to open at 9.

The event is open to all ages of ATV and dirt bike riders, provided they have a helmet and proper gear.

Admission for the poker run is $10 per person, plus general admission. All riders in the poker run will receive $5 off general admission, bringing it down to $10, for a total admission price of $20.

All proceeds from the poker run will be paid out as prize money. Participation will determine the number of places.

“The poker run is something the whole family can get involved in,” Park Manager Gerald Arrington said. “It’s not based on skill level as far as driving ATVs or dirt bikes.”

The rules are simple. Riders will encounter five stations at different points on the trail system where they will pick up different colored markers. At the end of the run, they will trade in their markers for an equivalent number of playing cards drawn from a basic deck.

The cards drawn will form a poker hand. Those who collect all five markers will have the best chance of winning, and the best hand will win the most money.

Cash prizes will be awarded at 3:30.

“The run can be completed at a leisurely pace,” Arrington said. “The time limit is not such that they’re going to be racing.”

Riders not participating in the poker run will be charged the regular admission price of $15.

“The park will be open to everyone whether they are participating in the poker run or not,” Arrington said.
