Clanton Police Chief James Henderson told members of the city council last night a parking plan is in place to assist voters in today’s municipal elections being held at City Hall.

Voter-only parking will be made available on both sides of City hall.

“We will have five voting machines operating this time,” Mayor Billy Joe Driver said.

The five voting machines for the election of the mayor and five council members are positioned throughout the first floor of City Hall. Voting will begin at 7 a.m. and will end at 7 p.m.

In other business the council agreed to hire the accounting firm of Hull and Russell to complete the city’s FYE 2008 audit. The firm has handled the city’s audit for many years.

The council agreed to pay $7,000 to Howard Thompson for an easement across his property that will allow the city to complete a sewer line to Jefferson State Community College’s campus here.

It approved a one-time payment to retired city workers. The payment will be $12 times the number of years the retired employee worked with the city. It gave a conditional approval for a tax abatement for a proposed new building for Cakes and Candies. City Attorney John Hollis Jackson said the city would need specific figures and details before the council could move forward on the matter.
