THORSBY – West Blocton’s consistent running game won out last night over Thorsby’s explosiveness, 35-27, in a preseason game.

The visiting Tigers took an early 14-0 lead while attempting only two passes, but Thorsby fought back into the game before the half.

Eddie Hubbard took a handoff, broke a tackle in the backfield and raced 50 yards down the right sideline for a score with a minute and a half left in the second quarter.

Hubbard snagged a one-handed interception on the visitors’ ensuing possession to set up a 37-yard Andrew Farris-to-Drake Hayes connection to tie the game with one second remaining in the half.

West Blocton continued to pound the football at the Rebels in the second half on its way to rolling up 300 rushing yards in the game.

Hubbard added another rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and Dustin Wilson found Tyler Rutherford on a long touchdown pass on the final play of the game.
