For the 2008-09 school year, the Chilton County School System has achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and is not in school improvement.

Seven schools within the system have met 100 percent of their annual measurable objectives based on the number of students who scored proficient on the spring test assessments. These are Clanton Elementary, Clanton Intermediate, Clanton Middle, Isabella, Jemison Elementary, Jemison Middle, and Verbena.

The three through eighth grade span specifically met goals in reading, mathematics and testing participation. The high school span goals in some of the schools, however, were affected by subgroups and the graduation rate.

In effect, Chilton County High, Jemison High, Thorsby and Maplesville did not meet 100 percent of their annual goals.

“Unfortunately, the graduation rate is extremely sensitive to the number of dropouts in each school,” Testing Coordinator Pam Harris said. “Attendance problems in the high schools are directly related to the number of school dropouts based on the fact that students that do not attend school regularly have a tendency to get behind and drop out.”
