Chilton County will be undergoing another “Take Back Our Highways” safety blitz from state troopers. Locally, Maplesville and Jemison will have extra officers out to help assist the troopers with their goal of getting drunken drivers off of the road.

The Jemison Police Department received a $1,000 grant to aid in paying an extra officer on shift for the blitz.

“We are going to have some extra officer on patrol around the Interstate Exit 219 to help in getting law breakers off of the street,” Jemison Police Chief Brian Stilwell said.

Maplesville the extra patrol officers will be covering U.S. Highway 82.

The blitz is set to take place from Monday through next Sunday. Anyone not wanting to receive a ticket for speeding, driving under the influence or even not being buckled should follow the rules of the road.

“We want to help with the blitz because we work everyday to keep the streets safe. That is what we do and any opportunity that we have to do a better job at that we take,” Maplesville Police Chief Todd Ingram said.

The Thorsby Police Department, the Clanton Police Department and the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department will not be placing extra officers on the road but will continue their regular patrols.
